Child Not Bride.

Child marriage is one of the major social evil ruling the world today. Even though slogans for women empowerment echoes from all corners no considerable change can be seen in stopping or even lowering child marriage. 15 million girls get married before 18 every year. If the present trend continue 150 million girls will be married before 18 in the next decade. And this dreadful evil ends in their premature death. ICRW points out two major reasons for this. 1. They get contradicted with AIDS, as they often marries a man who is several years older than them with more sexual experience. 2. The early pregnancy often puts an end to their life. It is one of the leading causes behind the death of girls between the age of 15-18.

There is no time to waste anymore. Stand up against this social evil. Join y hands with organisations like ICRW and  give our little sisters a beautiful and bright future.

My review of The Martian

I know its too late to write a review about this movie. But unfortunately its only yesterday I happened to watch it. I have been waiting for it ever since I saw its trailer. And last day or I must say last night to be precise turned out to be the lucky day. I was excited as anything when I saw it in the TV. From that moment till the end of the movie I was rooted to the spot. Normally I’m a fan of movies based on space and space travelling. And I have watched quite a few movies of that kind. After the last time I watched one such movie (I wont say its name) I started to feel that all such movies are similar to a great extend. Except for a few twists and elements most of the plot and tension will be similar. Even though I was highly excited I was sceptic about Martian’s plot. Part of me wondered whether is it going to be like any other ‘space’ movies.

The movie shattered all my doubts to pieces. It was like no other space based movie I ever watched. The story revolves around the astronaut named Mark Watney who is a botanist by profession. He and his crew consisting of five astronauts leaves for a mission in planet Mars under NASA. But  the crew leaves behind Mark in Mars thinking he is dead. Its really a heartbreaking sight when the Commander looks at the empty seat of Mark beside her. From here the story takes an unexpected phase. Mark wakes up to find himself alone and stranded in Mars. The rest of the movie is a clear portrayal of the proverb ‘if there is a will, there is a way’. Instead of wailing at his fate Matt Damon(Mark Watney) fully embraces the desolate condition and fights with the unfavorable situations to survive. He starts farming in the soil of Mars; a soil in which nothing grows. That’s where he shows his skills as a botanist. Never even once he loses his spirit and enthusiasm. He comes up with both fun and plans in the hab. He makes plans to survive till the Ares 5 comes up; which is the NASA’s next mission to Mars. My heart was in my mouth when his whole farming gets blasted out due to a minor mistake. Even then he doesn’t accept failure.

In the meantime NASA starts coming up with rescue plans. (I’m not planning to write the rest of the plot here. If there is any soul like me who haven’t yet watched this movie I don’t want this to be a spoiler). Apart from the character of Mark, the character who stole my heart was that of Venkat  Kapoor played by Chiwetel Ejiofor . Being the manager of the project he successfully portrayed the tension and pressure at times.

I got up after the movie with a big smile and contend heart.I realized that this is a movie I would watch a hundred times again and again with the same anticipation and excitement like the first time. This movie is worth the time you spend. I have to say I’m rather influenced by the attitude of Mark to the problems. If you feel like the world is closing its doors against you, or that you are desperately alone or if you are on the verge of ending your life all I have to tell you is “ Go and watch it as soon as possible. Because Mark Whattney tells you to look around at difficult times as there is always an open door for help. And also this is one movie you don’t ever wanna miss”.

Darkness

There she lay between the tracks
reeked in wounds numb and cold
Her face streaked with blood
Her eyes shut with pain

Cameras flashed, sirens wailed
Shouts of agony, cries of pain
Hearts burned with pity, Spirit of
humanity let out a sigh.

The veil of eternity lifted and
she watched the darkness creeping
into her long loved dreams taking in
all its colours.

Slowly it crept into her chamber of hope
leaving it barren and empty
It intruded into her wailing heart and
extinguished the lamp of love.

She looked onto herself with searching
eyes for something to hold on
But all she could find was a scarred body and a ripped soul..
